Kolkata, the City of Joy offers so many new things and new “byapar” each day. With the trams ringing their classic bells and the street hawkers announcing the prices on each product, this city has indeed a lot to offer.
Kolkata’s mishti doi and roshogolla have always been famous. But only a handful of people know that this city of Pujas doesn’t lag behind in terms of chaats as well. Chaats in Kolkata are considered as one of the most lip-smacking and mouth-watering street foods. Let’s take a stroll in Kolkata via this small list that will show some of the best places offering chaat.

Esplanade/ New Market




Considered as one of the most jostled areas of the Kolkata with people literally flooding up every day, irrespective of the season, Esplanade is one place that offers lip smacking chaats daily.
The street hawkers selling chaat in front of the glamorous Shree Ram Arcade and the Citi Mart are surely tempting enough. From the sprinkling sev to the extra mitha pani or dahi, these hawkers, although don’t have any brand name (yet) but give a good competition to many leading names out there. Also, located near the renowned Globe cinema are series of hawkers selling plates of awesome chaats.

College Street




No Kolkatan can miss the classic College Street zone. Jostled among historical colleges near the popular University of Calcutta, the chaat stalls found here are famous amongst the college students and locals likewise.

Bandana Chaat Centre



Bandana Chaat Centre is another joint that offers mouth watering chats in Kolkata.
Located in Chittaranjan Avenue, this place offers the best of Tikia Chola Chaats. The other chaats offered include, Dahi Kachori ChaatDahi Singhara Chaat, and Delhi Phuchka Chaat along with many other fast foods that are closely associated with the Kolkata.

Haldiram Food City




Kolkata’s chaat-food list without a mention of Haldiram will always be incomplete!!! Located in Ballygunge, this court offers such lip-smacking array of chaats, that you might finally come back again for the next weekend. Worth a try are Dahi Phuchka, Papri Chaat, Kachori Chaat amongst the available options.

Chaat Bazaar




Located in South City’s Food Court, Prince Anwar Shah Road is blessed with this joint. The served portions are quite decent. The prices may vary and be a little more than the street hawkers, but it’s the place where you can try out many variations in chaat. Look forward to trying out Delhi Papri Chaat, Mixed Chaat, Masala Peanut Chaat, Corn Chaat, Garam Tawa Aloo Chaat and Delhi Aloo Tikki Chaat, my guess is that the price won’t be a concern for you.

It doesn’t matter what kind of food you prefer be it on the streets or be it in a cozy restaurant, Kolkata simply has it all.
