Kolkata's Coolants

Although Kolkata is a heaven for food lovers, the weather all year round is less than desirable. The humidity, combined with the heat and pollution leaves a person quite uneasy and longing for something to beat the heat.
Well, here come in the numerous roadside stalls and legendary shops in their own right selling sherbets, lassi, golas and what not to satiate the palettes of the heat struck Kolkatan.

Paramount

Legendary 96 year old Kolkata restaurant that serves sherbets in a full service set up. A list on the wall mentions the Legends of Bengal who have been here.Till today it is run by the same family who started it. The third generation is running it now. The shop has a list of famous people of Bengal who have visited this shop. Some of the names include netaji subhash Chandra Bose, Satyajit ray, Meghnad Saha, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Uttam Kumar, Suchitra Sen etc. The concept of this restaurant is interesting. A sharbat store with proper seating arrangement like a restaurant, servers coming & taking order, serving the sharbat & collecting the money. The seats have marble tops. The most popular and the best sherbet in Paramount is the Daber Shorbot - a Sharbet made of tender coconut water, ice, syrup and the white meat/pulp of the coconut. Once you take a sip of Daber Sharbat you will understand why people prefer Paramount's Sherbet than any regular soft drinks to quench their thirst.

Shiv Ashram Sorbet Lassi

Shiv Ashram Sorbet Lassi is near Shyambazar on Bidhan Sarani near Hedua Area. It says SINCE 1978, which quite impresses.

It is a lil corner counter serving refreshments. However the no. of people coming & going is not less. They serve Lassi, Syrups, Shakes and most distinctly Bhaang. Which is not being served in this way in the town as per i know.

The prepare the drinks with great care. A single person sitting at the counter serves many in a short time. An each & every drink looks attractive.
Since summers are here so, we need to quench our thirst. So one can peep in here and give a try to something new.

Lassi and fruit Juice near Dacres Lane

Dacres lane is famous in it's own right for everything gastronomic. But after one has had their fill of the savory goodness, just head over a couple of lanes more to find a sweet soothing paradise. Stalls filled and decorated with fresh fruits and selling juices and drinks. But their main attraction is the Lassi. Plain sweet or the rich Mango. Take you pick and gulp it down. Both are equally awesome.

Kalpataru Mitha Lassi

Sealdah can be a very unforgiving place for the uninitiated. A train station, a court, malls, bus junctions, goods storage, perennial markets - all crammed into one space. It is the livelihood and the destination for many a Kolkatan on a daily basis. Kalpataru provides the Lassi and sort of a relief from all that chaos. Plain, simple and sweet. That's the success story.

Lassi near Shyambazar metro

Like Sealdah, Shyambazar is also one of the focal points of Kolkata. It's the link between North and Central parts of the city. Expectedly, the place sees it's own share of tired and heat stricken city goers daily. The barrage of Lassi and fruit juice shops that line each side of the Shyambazar metro footpath are a sight to behold in our city's smoldering heat.
